On a beautifully sunny July morning, I met up with Lauren, Brian and their two children Edison and Emerson for a family photo session in ‘s Graveland, northwest of Hilversum. With two boys, one of whom is only one and a half, the main goal for the session was to have fun while capturing the family as they are right now in this phase of their lives. Though they’ve been in the Netherlands for less than a year, the family is already well-integrated into Dutch life– they even arrived for their photo session by bicycle.
This being our second photo session together, I’ve already learned that Lauren is a master at making stunning wardrobe choices. And her boys are so lovely together, Edison full of ideas and stories and Emerson, the youngest, full of energy and curiosity.
Working with a young family always results in a give and take for me as a photographer, following the children’s lead while working to capture beautiful memories for when they are older. And being sure that mom and dad get at least one beautiful image of themselves, a moment for each other before it’s time to chase after the boys again.
What makes this photo session even more meaningful is that the images from this family’s photo session now decorate the walls of two rooms in their home and fill a stunning 30 x 30 cm album, beautiful reminders of this fun, crazy and most of all amazing period in their lives.
Are you as excited as I am about documenting this phase in your family’s life?
