Since we moved from Utrecht to Heemstede in 2014, we’ve spent a significant amount of time exploring the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. My husband grew up in the area, so returning to this part of the dunes is a bit like coming home for him.
During the recent lockdown, this extraordinary place became even more precious to our family. It was a place we could breathe free, a safe distance from other people, have picnics, explore, look for fox cubs, be ourselves. It was only fitting that we capture some of these memories for our summer 2020 photo session.
Sometimes, life in a village in the Netherlands can feel a little claustraphobic. Especially for this farm girl, whose closest neighbors used to be wild animals and cows. I love walking in the dunes with the kids, enjoying the space around us. Always finding new spots to explore, sometimes even leaving the paths and blazing our own new trail.
We’re so lucky to have such a beautiful national park almost on our doorstep. Have you ever visited the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen? What’s your favorite place to go when you’re longing for adventure?
And most importantly, how can I help you document this phase in your family’s life?
